TENS Therapy

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) uses very mild electrical current as a manner for treating pain resulting from a wide variety of injuries and conditions.

What is TENS treatment?

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a therapy that uses low voltage electrical current to provide pain relief. A TENS unit delivers electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the surface of your skin near where the pain is located or at trigger points. TENS is often utilized by your chiropractor due it being minimally invasive, as well as it being a non-addictive alternative to pharmaceutical pain medications.

Benefits of TENS Therapy

Non-invasive

TENS therapy is a completely non-invasive option for treatment. When treatment takes place, small padded electrodes are placed near the site where the pain is experienced, and the skin goes totally unbroken - and there is nothing that needs to be inserted into the patient's body. As such, it is an excellent first-level option for treating both chronic and acute pain.

Non-addictive

TENS therapy is often an excellent alternative to prescription pain medications because there is no threat of developing any addiction or dependency. Also, the application and techniques used for TENS therapy can easily be adjusted so that it helps minimize the patient's body becoming tolerant or "used to" the same TENS programming.

Affordable & Portable

Smaller, portable TENS units are widely available without a prescription from a doctor. The unit itself is typically smaller than a smartphone and can be easily carried for any time, anywhere use, and can be safely packed for travel. As with anything, there are numerous TENS unit options. However, a simple and still very effective TENS unit can be purchased for a very affordable price.
